  1. For such a long time now, the government has gotten by with playing with words and what those words meanto them and whoever they are playing with at the moment. We are not supposed to know the word 'regulate' in the legal sense, means fees, fines, certification, licensing, permits and the like. Regulation does not mean monitor, testing, inspecting, over-seeing, assurance, safety, etc.

Regulate - to control or direct by a rule, principle, method, etc.: to regulate household expenses.

Regulate - to adjust to some standard or requirement, as amount, degree, etc.: to regulate the temperature.

Regulate - to adjust so as to ensure accuracy of operation: to regulate a watch.

Key word here is ensure. Ensure is one of those iffy words. No guarantees. No promise. No oath.

Regulate - to put in good order: to regulate the digestion. Hmmmmm

This is what the government tells us they do. This is NOT what they REALLY do.

It is a way for the government to get money for ‘nothing’. Or receive money to ‘allow’ people to work, as in ‘ drill for oil’.

Permits, Fees, Licenses, Fines, Etc. = Money
    Drilling Without Inspections = Disasters
    Therefore -
Money is paid to the government for the ‘right’ for the corporations to drill, which leads to disasters and perhaps you can more easily see how the corporations FEEL it's OK. They paid the money.

The government received the money because they think they deserve it and the word ‘regulate’ helps make things appear like the government is keeping a watchful eye on the safety of the people, the food supply, medicine, land, water and air. It appears the government is involved and after all, the people know the government ‘issued’ the permits and the government accepted money for those permits and therefore the government feels it’s OK.

Again, it really is all about the money.

They were over their heads the moment they decided to do this hair brained, Gulf of Mexico, off-shore drilling.

It would not surprise me at all to one day hear the announcement the federal government has a new department.

    The Department of Allowing

That would be where you go, pay them whatever they say and when you leave, you can do pretty much whatever you want.

  2. The oil slicks on the water are obviously a sign of danger. Good grief! The fish cannot be safe to eat. The beaches cannot be safe. The air is not safe. The 'other' food is not safe.

We typically think crude oil is dangerous and I agree it is. The men who run Washington, D.C. and run the state governments are more dangerous, in my opinion.

They should be required to wear a warning label.
The Department of the Interior included.

I appreciate Rachel Maddow reporting on the gulf and you too, Max for posting this story.

I was one of the cynical ones who did not believe the gulf was clean or the seafood is safe. I heard the propaganda. I know the spiel.

How dare the little people deny the government the oppoprtunity to carry on with the lies, cover-up and conspiracy.

And I am really glad TRWS is speaking out about the new permits. Good for her.

  4. Oh boy Rachel has Ken upset. Gotta love that!
Salazar is a destructive force that should definitely come with a warning label.

  5. This is turning into one hell of big damn coverup!
How can anybody in their right mind, operative words=right mind, think anything from the Gulf is safe for consumption?
The lengths all involved are going to to not tell us the truth is staggering.
I can tell you this, there are not may locals going in the water or eating the seafood.
That say anything to the rest of you?

  6. No amount of propaganda is going to convince the public to trust this industry again or the safety of Gulf seafood.
But they'll keep right on lying to us and spending scads of money to consider us all Mikey's from the Life cereal commercials.
