This issue demands national involvement. This is a good start, but will the national office of the NAACP be willing to get into the fray? There are many issues that they could involve themselves in Alabama on behalf of our minority population. Environmental crimes are crimes against human rights--therein lies the impetus for bigger players.
Another brilliantly stupid economic scheme by the state of Aladumba. Hey Mikey, let's put two coal mines on the river and discharge the waste right across from the drinking water intakes. Idiots.
It would appear coal companies just don't care what they do to the enviornment regardless of where they are. It would also appear that politicians everywhere will give priorty to corporate interests instead of the public's interests.
Here on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada we also have a proposed coal mine. The mine has great potential for contaiminating not only the ground water but the ocean where there is a thriving clam, mussel industry which employs local people. In B.C.'s case they not only want to build the mine they will most likely inport the labour from China, truck the coal along a two lane highway, and then send it via ship along pristine coastlines out to China.
Good luck with your fight against coal. it does nothing for the enviornment; makes the multinational corporations richer and the voters sicker.
This will be dismissed by "the UA machine" as uppity interference, just watch.
ReplyDeleteI love it though.
Great move by the NAACP and other signers!

Yay!!!
ReplyDeleteThe more pressure the better!
Will the state of Alabama, City of Birmingham and Dr. Witt resist the wants of Gary Neal Drummond?
ReplyDeleteMy guess would be NO.

It would be impossible to be more ashamed of my alma mater than I am over this issue. I love UA but I am furious with the administration over this.
