Influence, Inc.--Alabama 2011 PAC List
"You have PAC A gives to PAC B and PAC B to PAC C and C to D. The candidate has D's money, but in fact it came from A. That's a smoke-and-mirrors game."--former Alabama Secretary of State Jim Bennett AlabamaPACList2011
Grats Max. This makes it easier to do a quick look-see when PACs are mentioned in news articles. Supposedly the legislature banned PAC tomfoolery. Sure they did.
There's a letter to the editor in today's Birmingham News calling for transparency. "Transparency antidote to special interests" When I look at this PAC list the first thing that comes to my mind is just more of the same old murkiness that is an endemic sickness in our political process. PACs are shell games plain and simple.
Deceased presidential persuaders of a greenish hue come from so many places. Out of corporate lawyers pockets courtesy of inflated law firm expenses is one that springs to mind.
Is it just me or is anyone else put off with the idea of lobbyists running pacs knowing those same lobbyists are slinking around the statehouse arm twisting the legislators? That's a real easy way to slide a little gold into the elected officials kitty too.
