Kim Carapucci CBS 42 Reports on Another Dog Killing in Vincent, Alabama

Two dogs were gunned down on Christmas Eve in a residential neighborhood by a very foolish man who used a rifle in a residential area to murder the dogs. Mr. Chandler, the killer, claims the two dogs were "mauling his dogs" and that the Vincent Police Chief told the Chandlers they were justified in killing their neighbors dogs.

This is on the heels of a similar shooting in nearby Talladega on December 11th.

We have heard from someone who knows the family whose dogs were murdered and believe there is more to this story than meets the eye. It is convenient for Mr. Chandler to claim his dogs were "being mauled" after the fact. The family says that his first reason was because the dogs were urinating on his tires. Which is it Mr. Chandler? Are you covering your behind?

We find it additionally troubling that he used a high caliber weapon to kill one of the dogs, a Maltipoo, 7-8lbs at best. This isn't the first dog killing in Vincent. Just two weeks ago, three family pets were shot and dumped by the side of Highway 231 that belonged to the Howard family. The killers have yet to be identified. It wasn't the first time the family had a pet killed.

There is a real problem in Vincent with animal killings and dumpings and we thank Ms. Carapucci for her coverage of this story. Should owners keep their animals leashed and penned? Yes. But if an animal escapes, which does happen, does that give any citizen the right to kill someone's dog? No.

Life is perilous in Vincent, Alabama for dogs. And something must be done about this.
One way to gauge someone's level of humanity is how they treat the defenseless. We would submit that humanity is in very short order in Vincent, Alabama.

  1. You cannot just shoot someone's dog, that's a load of hooey. I hope the family sticks to their plan to go after the man. Why didn't he get arrested for shooting a rifle in a neighborhood? Is that okay in Vincent? He could have hit a person or a child, that's not important? Once again our stellar police force sets a bad example. One of the cops lives on White Rock's property and has been promised a job by the quarry. The quarry that most of Vincent does NOT WANT.

  2. Mauling implies injury. Were Mr. chandler's dogs injured or did they have any signs of injury? The video shows his dogs to be happy, calm and ALIVE, unlike the other two dogs.

  3. The family who lost the dogs should contact this agency and see if they can help:

If what Chandler did was not overboard and intentional cruelty by murdering those dogs, I don't know what is. It seems to me he literally used a shotgun to kill a fly. Whatever his reasons, he is going to have a very hard time justifying the killing of the small dog with a rifle for God's sakes! That's just nuts!
Oh, that's right, they claim the police chief told them they "were in the right" so case closed.
    NOT HARDLY.

  4. § 3-1-10. Wanton, malicious, etc., destruction, injury, etc., of animal or article or commodity of value of another -- Prohibited.

Any person, who unlawfully, wantonly or maliciously kills, disables, disfigures, destroys or injures any animal or article or commodity of value which is the property of another must, on conviction, be fined not less than twice the value of the injury or damage to the owner of the property nor more than $1,000.00 and may also be imprisoned in the county jail, or sentenced to hard labor for the county for not more than six months, and so much of the fine as may be necessary to repair the injury or loss shall go to the party injured.

You'll need to look up the law regarding discharging a rifle within city limits in a residential setting (if that is where it occurred), but I would be willing to bet it's against ordinances.

The offender should have been arrested for that, IMHO. That's very reckless and dangerous behavior even Barney Fife types should be aware of.

  5. What a sad story, my sympathies to the family and shame on the police for condoning this vile act.

  6. Michael Vick would be right at home in Vincent. This makes me very angry!!!!!!!!!! Who the hell does this? Couldn't the shooter have tried something else first? He could, but he didn't. Heartless bastard. I wonder how he and his wife would feel if this had happened to them?

  7. WTF? Why are all these dogs being killed in the area? If you create the climate of this is acceptable, it's only a dog, then it's going to continue. It's senseless and it won't stop until it gets publicity and justice. Sue the bastard!

  8. How long before someone gets to Carapucci and starts directing her interests? That's what happens to anyone good who tries to make a difference.
We should enjoy her while we can. I like her.

  9. I know the Chandlers. They are not the warm and fuzzy types. Neither is the police chief. Vincent has many secrets.
