US Court Revives Lawsuit Against Drummond Coal in Colombia Coal Killings - KansasCity.com

From the story--A lawsuit claiming an Alabama coal company executive paid paramilitary forces to kill three Colombian union leaders was revived Thursday when an appeals court ruled the victims' children could sue in the U.S.
The mine operator, Drummond Company Inc., was cleared of any wrongdoing by jurors in Birmingham during a 2007 trial in a similar lawsuit brought by the union and the victims' widows.
The new complaint claims a witness who was previously in jail in Colombia can now testify that he saw a Drummond executive give a briefcase full of cash to an illegal right-wing militia to have two of the union heads killed.

Here's the back story on what happened for those who are not familiar with the case from Sue Sturgis of Facing South

  1. Justice has been long delayed in this case and hopefully this new ruling will hold Drummond responsible for what he did.
Those men were murdered in horrible ways.....

  2. Do you think this has anything to do with Drummond putting the Colombian mine up for sale?

  3. I fear that returning the case to the lower court will result in another dismissal of sorts.
Maybe with the 11th CC giving them a reprimand by returning the case, it might turn out differently, but one should never underestimate the strength of Drummomd money and influence.

  4. You're right BarT and what we know so far in this sordid case is that justice is definitely for sale.

  5. "...cleared of wrongdoing in 2007 by Birmingham jurors..."
In my mind that jury was probably intimidated and or paid off. Drummond scares a lot of people, he knows it and wears it as a badge of honor.
Let's hope this time justice prevails.

  6. Alabama and justice both bow at the dirty feet of Drummond. I would love to see him finally get some measure of justice for all of the wicked things that coal black-hearted man has done all of his life.
