Tornadoes Rip Through Alabama

A horrific storm system that killed more than 300 people in six states across the South is one of the worst the country has experienced in more than four decades.
 

"Wind speeds of up to 200 miles an hour."

"Brown's Ferry nuclear plant on backup generators."

    I just heard Obama is coming to Alabama to tour the disaster areas. I hope the staunchly republican Governor doesn't muck it up and say something stupid that will hurt your states chances for recovery.

    MONTGOMERY, Alabama - The death toll in Alabama from Wednesday's storms has reached 162, the state Emergency Management Agency reported at 11:25 a.m. today.

    The agency said that so far, there were 30 deaths reported in DeKalb County, 18 in Franklin County, 15 in Tuscaloosa County, 14 in Jefferson County, 14 in Walker County, 13 in St. Clair County and 12 in Lawrence County.

    The agency reported that other counties recording deaths as of 11:25 a.m. today were: Jackson County, with eight, Madison County, seven; Calhoun County, six; Elmore County, five; Marshall County, five; Hale County, four; Limestone County, three; Marion County, three; Cullman County, two; Fayette County, two; and Bibb County, one.

    The agency also said there were six people reported missing -- three in Jackson County and one each in Elmore, Fayette and Marshall counties.
